Sooke Accommodation Guide

Sooke is a small town about 45 minutes west of Victoria. To be honest the town itself is not what draws tourists. There is no real 'downtown' and no 'must-see' district for tourists. The reason people visit year after year is the surrounding nature.

Sooke is surrounded on all sides by full-day adventures. You have Sook Potholes Provincial Park with some of the best river swimming in the area, East Sooke Provincial Park with enough trails and viewpoints to keep you busy for days, and past Sooke, you have Highway 14 that weaves through Juan de Fuca with enough amazing roadside stops that the 1-hour drive to Port Renfrew will take all day.

Summary

In Sooke, you generally have 3 options when considering where to stay:

Staying in Sooke Proper: There are several high-end accommodations in Sooke itself. These are, overall, the nicest places, and they work well as a base to explore the surrounding area, or as just a getaway where you want a bit of luxury and want to barely leave the hotel. There are also some full townhouse properties available in town that are ideal if you are travelling as a family or as a part of a larger group, and you want a full kitchen and all the amenities of a full home

Staying in East Sooke Park: There are quite a few full-time residents living in the park and a small collection of cabins and B&B's as well. These work well if you're here mostly for the hiking, or if you're looking for a cozy cabin to escape to, and you're not too worried about getting out and exploring

Just Past Sooke: The little cottage community of Jordan River, just past Sooke, works well if you are planning your trip around exploring the Juan de Fuca region. The accommodations here are small cottages and B&B's.

Luxury options

There are a few high-end options in Sooke. The best of them all is the Sooke Harbour House. This is a hotel that some people come to Sooke for. They don't hike, they don't go for a river swim, they just read on the balcony, get dinner at the restaurant, and soak in their double-sized tubs. It is a great luxury hotel experience, and outside of the peak summer months (July & August), the price is pretty reasonable considering the level of service and luxury.

Even if you're not staying here, it is worth popping in for dinner at some point in your trip. The outdoor space is gorgeous, and it's probably the best meal in town.

SookePoint Ocean Cottage Resort

SookePoint is quite a bit out of the town and is actually down at the south tip of East Sooke Park. It looks close to the other hotels on the map, but if you put in the driving directions you will see how remote it is, which can be seen as a perk. Check Availability
